Illustrated paper scrolls invented in the early 20th century for self-playing pianos found in dance halls across the Western world. These vintage French finds are functional, but could be repurposed as unique art pieces for any wall.
Player Piano Scrolls
Early in the 20th century, self-playing pianos could be found in dance halls and dining rooms across the Western world. Their internal pneumatic system allowed the player pianos to run by inserting scrolls—thick paper rolled over a tracker bar with a long series of small holes that would prompt the piano’s keys to follow.
These particular scrolls were collected across French brocantes, still functional though they could also be repurposed as art pieces honoring a time long past.
