Windows of the Past

If The Paris Market prides itself on one thing, it's our innovative window displays—usually matched to the season, conceptualized from favorite films, songs, cultural movements or pieces of art, and designed first by Paula and then by our staff.

From papier maché to more outlandish curiosities, we tell stories behind glass and offer you a glimpse at what might lie inside. Dare to imagine with us?

The above photo is from a letter-writing campaign we ran several years ago, intended to connect cities, lovers, and friends around the world! We had stationery in the store and pens at the ready, so that soon as a letter was completed we could post it. Several of the trunks from this particular display are in the store now, while a few will make their way online!

A mystical evening beneath the sea, this shop window was carefully contructed of paper, ribbons, sand, and paint—but with one unique addition.

Inside the treasure trunk lies a collection of necklace setting models from the 1920s that Paula picked up at a vintage market a decade before. Equal parts whimsical and industrial, we imagine the metalworks could be used to create necklaces now or paired with crystals and hung on the wall as art. There are several in the Savannah store if you're brave enough to go looking for them!

An homage to classic horror and the Frankenstein story, this haunting display was constructed before 2020, using books, antique items, trunks, and candles that we still sell both in store and online. It remains one of Paula's favorites for its innovative design and balance of camp and creep!

Above is our favorite window of 2023, inspired by Botticelli's The Birth of Venus and made to honor the release of our Grotto Collection with Fallen Aristocrat. If you're in Savannah this weekend on, you may see these giant oysters scattered throughout the store, ready to be taken home for your own display.

As for the window below, seagulls hover over an imagined beach on the perfect summer's day—now perched throughout The Paris Market!

JOIN US FOR A BASTILLE BROCANTE!

Bastille Day has sparked a tradition in our store over the last several years, from themed decor and drinks scattered around the shelves to a mock-flea market last summer where we brought you to the sprawling street brocantes of France.

And while we've dusted off quite a few, new antiques this year that you've yet to lay eyes upon, we're delighted to add design pieces from our store windows into the mix!

The Paris Market has attracted artists since its inception, with much of the staff comprised of creatives who make use of all the odds and ends lying around. In bringing in set design, scraps of ribbon, papier maché creations, and more, we're hoping to create an artist's paradise of materials to start something new.

For one week, we invite you to sift through centuries of artwork and history, as well as handmade creations and bits and bobs from our beloved window displays of the last 10 years.

So creative. I wish I could visit Savannah to see these gorgeous windows in person.
